Village receives grant funds for new concert series

The village of Phoenix has been awarded $1,000 from the Cultural Resources Council under the 2012 Community Arts Grants Program.  In addition to the village of Phoenix, seventy other not-for profit organizations and nine regional artists will share $120,000 for community-based cultural projects in Cortland, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego counties. Community Arts Grants were awarded with funds from the Decentralization Program of the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency. 

This is the largest number of grants ever awarded by the CRC,” said Stephen Butler, Executive Director of the CRC. “Our service has expanded from three to six counties, allowing us to support important local projects throughout Central New York-from neighborhood festivals to exhibitions, performances, and educational programs.”

The village of Phoenix is very excited to have been a recipient of this grant,” said Mayor Anthony Fratto. “One of our many goals of the village of Phoenix is to enhance the quality of life for our residents and visitors.  We accomplish this goal by generating and supporting cultural experiences. We ensure access to those experiences through grant making, marketing, development, communication, and building relationships with our community partners. Our challenge is to be a catalyst for the delivery of art, culture, and heritage to everyone in our community by working together with our partners to improve our village’s sustainability efforts and residents’ quality of life.” 

The village of Phoenix will use the grant funds for a new concert series to be held at Henley Park in the Summer of 2012.

The concert schedule has been finalized and will feature performances by Western Swing on Friday, July 13; Clean Slate on Friday, July 20; Stone River Band on Friday, July 27; Smokin’ on Friday, Aug. 3; Nite Life on Friday, Aug. 10 and Hendry on Friday, Aug. 17.  All performances will begin at 6 p.m.  Everyone is encouraged to attend.

In addition to funding from the Cultural Resources Council, this new concert series would not be possible without the financial contributions of the village of Phoenix, Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, Leon Vickery, Inc/Vickery Insurance, Graphics Warehouse, State Street Café and KL Consulting Services.
