King of Kings Lutheran Church, located at 8278 Oswego Road, Liverpool, is the recipient of over 800 pounds of non-perishable food as a result of WeightWatchers’ fourth annual Lose For Good campaign.
Part of the Lose For Good initiative, which just recently wound up its fourth annual campaign to raise money and food for hunger relief around the world, included the donation of food items by members for every pound they lost over a six-week period.
For over 25 years, two local WeightWatchers’ groups have been holding their meetings at King of Kings. Since the Lose For Good initiative began, each WeightWatchers group has decided who would be the recipient of the food collected as a result of the campaign. For the past two years, King of Kings was chosen. Donations of food from members of the congregation are received on a daily basis. King of Kings helps support St. Paul’s Food Pantry, which operates out of Brown Memorial Methodist Church on Davis Avenue in Syracuse.
The food donated by WeightWatchers’ local group will be a welcome addition to those in need on the near west side. The groups meeting at King of Kings lost an estimated 885 pounds, collectively. This resulted in more than 800 pounds of additional food items earmarked for St. Paul’s Food Pantry.
In addition to collections for local area food pantries, WeightWatchers will donate up to $1 million dollars as the result of a number of other weight loss initiatives that were held during the most recent six-week campaign. Seventy percent of the funds will go to Share Our Strength which is a national organization working to make sure no child in America grows up hunger. Thirty percent will be donated to Action Against Hunger, an ACF International organization saving lives through the prevention, detection, and treatment of malnutrition.
