It is an old custom to bless the animal kingdom on St. Francis of Assisi’s Feast Day (actually Oct. 4).
As a way of celebrating this special day, members of the Southern Oswego County Council of Churches - First Congregational Church, Phoenix Methodist, Pennellville Methodist and St. Stephen’s Catholic Church - will gather with the community for a blessing of all pets (beasts) as well as a blessing of motorcycles (hogs).
The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1 beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Henley Park in Phoenix. All are welcome and invited to bring in a pet (or a hog) for a blessing.
Those attending are asked to keep all pets under control.
Anyone wishing to make a donation of animal food (especially cat food), clean used blankets or towels, or a monetary donation is encouraged to do so.
Everything collected will go to the Oswego County Humane Society.
