Rebekahs provide lunch for United Nations Pilgrimage for youth

Oswego County Weeklies

On Thursday, June 30, a bus carrying 48 students on the United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth stopped in Mexico at the Arbeit Lodge Hall Lodge Hall for a Mexiconian “Taco” lunch sponsored by Silver Crest Rebekah Lodge 229. The Mexiconian “Taco” lunch was something “they were very excited about. They were ecstatic when they found out what they were to eat!” reports Connie Day, Noble Grand, Silver Crest Rebekah Lodge 229 and Grand Matriarch of the Grand LEA of NYS.

The students, all juniors in high school, flew into Philadelphia, from around the country and Norway, and began their pilgrimage with a tour of the city.

They then traveled to New York City to the United Nations to compete in the United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth scholarship sponsored by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF). On June 30, they left New York City early in the morning, with one bus driver and two tour leaders, to be at the Arbeit Lodge in Mexico for lunch.  Following lunch they boarded the bus and made their way to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.  From Canada the group traveled to Washington DC for a tour and then back to Philadelphia to fly home.

The students, or delegates, traveled from: Alabama (1), California (4), Colorado (11), District of Columbia (2), Maryland (11), Minnesota (1), Montana (3), Nebraska (1), New Mexico (1), North Dakota (2), and Norway (11).  The United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth is an annual event.
