Agricultural Environmental Management program has new intern

Mary Petersen, a resident of Oswego County and an alumni of SUNY Oswego, is the new intern for the Agricultural Environmental Management (AEM) Program. 

Petersen’s role as an AEM Intern will be to assist the district staff in conducting  a more thorough approach in the delivery of information and assistance with  opportunities in technology and environmental practices to the interested  farmers of Oswego County.

Her duties include visiting local farms and discussing with the farmers the  goals and environmental concerns of the farm.  After the initial interview,  solutions are offered to assist farmers achieve the goals and address the  concerns identified. Solutions such as financial assistance programs to help  overcome implementing costs, environmental farm plan development, and the  appropriate application of technology like the design and installation of Best  Management Practices. 

Petersen grew up on a local dairy farm, she currently assists Doud Dairy Farm in  the town of Mexico.
