At the Minetto Town Hall on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m., Dick Drosse, coordinator for Friends of Great Bear, will give a presentation about the history of Great Bear Springs. The presentation will include slides and information from when local businessman Frederick Emerick began bottling and supplying it's water, to Great Bear's present day use as a wooded recreational area.
Great Bear Springs, is a non-motorized, multi-use recreational area located on county Route 57, 3.6 miles south of Fulton.
This area features a network of over seven miles of nature trails, connecting with the old Oswego River Canal and towpath. Great Bear is comprised of about 500 acres, owned by the city of Fulton, the town of Volney, NYS Canal Corporation and private ownership.
Open to the public, refreshments will be served.
