Zombie crawl to hit downtown Oswego Oct. 29

Oswego County Weeklies

The undead are expected to stroll, amble and lurch through the Port City's downtown during the first-ever Oswego Zombie Crawl the evening of Saturday, Oct. 29.

The family-friendly walk will begin at 6 p.m. that day at Midtown Plaza, going toward and around Fort Ontario before winding back to East Ninth Street and down Bridge Street. After a stop at Midtown Plaza, zombies age 21 and over are welcome to continue to the Raven Pub, 39 Bridge St., to see such haunting cinema as the roller derby/zombie romantic comedy "Eight

Wheels of Death" and other zombie-themed fare.

Attendees are asked to show up at Midtown Plaza between 5 and 5:45 p.m. to sign waivers and get instructions. A makeup artist and other volunteers will be available for those looking for help to get zombified.

"We really wanted to make this a family-friendly event that gives people something fun to do," said Yvonne Brown, one of the event's volunteer organizers. "We're thrilled that the crawl will take people through haunted Fort Ontario to celebrate this  unique local landmark."

There is no admission charge to participate, although zombies are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, with donations to benefit Oswego's Human Concerns Center food pantry.
