The North Scriba District 14 one-room schoolhouse will be the topic of the September meeting of the Scriba Historical Society. The meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Scriba Municipal Building on Creamery Road.
The school was located about 3/10ths of a mile north of the intersection of Routes 1 and 29 that was known as Perkins Corners. It closed in 1957, and there after the students went to the Mexico schools.
Rita and Elana Oldenburg will be making the presentation, and they invite all former students to come and share their photos and stories. The photos may be of individuals, groups, and teachers. The stories, or information, could be about the students, the teachers, or anything at all about the building, the grounds, the curriculum, or the children’s experiences getting to and from the school.
Of course, the meeting is open to all those interested in history.
