Hannah Valentino of Mexico, recently received a bronze medal in SUNY Oswego’s first GENIUS Olympiad, a global high school science and art competition focused on the environment.
Valentino presented a science project titled “Detection of Saline Tracer Through an Ice-Covered Pond Using 4D Electrical” during an exhibition in the college’s Hewitt Union ballroom at the GENIUS -- Global Environmental Issues and Us -- Olympiad.
From June 26 to 30, SUNY Oswego hosted 223 young scientists and artists from 34 countries and 32 states -- all finalists in a competition that attracted more than 600 entrants -- along with 103 mentors and family members.
Entries in the scholarly competition spanned environmental quality, ecology and biodiversity, resources and energy, human ecology, and a special category, removing oil from water.
